My maternal grandpa came to the United States from Rumania, and he and my nana settled in New York City. When Louie Lepke, a Mafioso member approached him to do business with him, my grandpa and grandma Sircus left New York City for Kansas City. He established a coat manufacturing business just south of KC. He was the salesman for the company, too. One rainy night, as he was returning home, he did not realize the slick conditions of rain and wet leaves, he skidded and died in a car accident. Every time now, that I see wet leaves, I always think of him, although I don’t remember him.
For the past two months, I have noticed the beautiful spring trees and leaves here in Texas. I am amazed at the beautiful colors, as I did not expect this beauty. It was not too long ago that I lived in Shreveport, and the city always seemed to be green, the leaves were always on the trees.
We can be like Shreveport trees, with the leaves always attached to the trees.
We read in Psalm 1:
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers !
But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither ;
And in whatever he does , he prospers .
If we are planted in the courts of the LORD, if our whole heart is abiding in Him, our leaf will never wither, and in whatever we do, we will prosper. To prosper means that we will thrive, we will experience success. It means the achievement of something attempted.
Joshua 1:8 says
This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth,
but you shall meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it,
and then you will make your way prosperous
and then you will have success.
God’s word is positive, it does not say “then maybe you will have success”
or ‘maybe someday pie in the sky your way will be prosperous”
it is affirming, it says you will make your way prosperous, you will have success.
Hebrews 11:1 says that Faith is the assurance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen. By faith, if we stay abiding in the LORD, the answer for us is yes. No questions asked.
The Hebrews passage affirms this.
As photosynthesis allows a green plant to take light, and transform it to energy, we are to take the Light of Yeshua Jesus and allow it to transform our lives into energy for Him. His Spirit, His Pneuma (Greek for spirit) mysteriously empowers us, provokes us, urges us, moves us, empowers us. However, we have to do our part – stay in the word, obey the word, trust the LORD, cling to Him, abide in Him, yield to Him, surrender to Him, die to self. These actions are not easy, yet the only way God can bring promotion to us, is through our death.
Exercise is not pleasant for most of us and exercising our faith muscle has to be the hardest exercise of all. Yet God calls us to exercise our faith muscle probably more than we realize. When we write a check, we are trusting that our financial institution has the money that we put in, to cover the check. We work for two or four weeks before we are paid. We are trusting by faith, that our employer will pay us.
When God calls us to trust Him by faith, that is where He is allowing us to take what we have learned and transform it by His Spirit into action. I wish I could understand it, but I don’t; I just know that it works. Stay in His word, do His will, even when it hurts, even when no one sees. Sometimes you will get ‘white knuckle ” faith, from clinging so tightly.
But hang on, it will be worth it. Your leaf will not wither and whatever you do, you will prosper.
